Elanco celebrates the 10th anniversary of its AviPro® Salmonella Duo vaccine

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of its AviPro® Salmonella Duo vaccine, Elanco Animal Health organized a technical conference where the current challenges and opportunities in the pack poultry industry were discussed. During the meeting, which took place from 28 to 30 September in San Sebastián, Elanco’s technical team together with renowned consultants from the sector addressed the current challenges caused by the increase in the cost of raw materials, branding positioning strategies and analysis of production data to improve production efficiency.

AviPro® Salmonella Duo is a bivalent vaccine that confers homologous protection against the two most common serotypes: Salmonella Enteritidis y Salmonella Typhimurium. Furthermore, it is the only commercial vaccine that has been shown to protect eggs from the challenge. of Salmonella Enteritidisa serotype with the property of colonizing the oviduct and surviving in egg albumin, therefore represents a unique and highly valuable tool in the field of bird breeding and commercial laying hens.

Salmonellosis is a disease that affects both animals and people, being the the second most reported food-borne zoonosis in humans. There are an estimated 59,000 deaths worldwide from this disease each year and it is the leading cause of food-borne outbreaks in the EU, where 52,702 cases were reported in 2020.

PREVENT AND CONTROL SALMONELLA

Elanco supports food safety with a full suite of products and programs. Tackling Salmonella on poultry farms requires an integrated and comprehensive approach to food safety. Elanco’s “Salmonella 360 °” treats every stage of poultry development, from egg to plate, as the last line of defense against Salmonella to prevent infections and improve food safety.

1) Develop active immunity with vaccines that offer protection throughout the life cycle.

2) Support bird immunity with nutritional products that promote gut health and reduce the chances of Salmonella colonization.

3) Protect bird immunity with the Food Safety Program to assess Salmonella risk factors and mitigate Salmonella transmission with bioprotection products.
