El Paso collaborates with Isonorte to support families in situations of poverty or high social exclusion

The El Paso City Council has launched the Integra project (Program to combat poverty and high exclusion in the Canary Islands) in the municipality, which has been joined by the entity that develops it in La Palma, the Isonorte Foundation , which has been working with vulnerable groups since 2018. A set of actions that are financed by the General Directorate of Social Rights, of the Government of the Canary Islands

This initiative, they point out from the local institution, is aimed at vulnerable people who are at a high level of exclusion, mainly recipients and experts of the Canary Islands Insertion Benefit (PCI), and has a specialized multidisciplinary team, made up of psychologists, educators , social workers and monitors, who, working in coordination with the City Council technicians, have established itineraries for social insertion with follow-up and accompaniment in their development.

The profiles of the users of the program respond, in accordance with the organization to implement it, to people with difficulty integrating into their environment. In general, they are people with a low educational level and with financial difficulties. Problems associated with physical and mental health have also been detected, such as addictions and gender violence. On the other hand, they explain that it is showing a deep digital divide, either due to the management and use of ICTs and due to the lack of computer devices.

In this regard, the Mayor of El Paso, Sergio Rodríguez, and the Councilor for Social Services, Ángeles Fernández, expressed their satisfaction that these types of programs are being developed in the town, thus enabling a comprehensive and defined intervention for families who are in social exclusion and with which the COVID-19 pandemic has become even more prevalent.
