El Bierzo has turned, once again, so that its voice is heard loud and clear in demand of a “worthy” Oncology service for Hospital del Bierzo. The citizens’ initiative launched at the end of March has already achieved the first 1,500 signatures that he sent this Tuesday to Common Attorney for what take action on the matter ante la serious situation that affects the unit of care for cancer patients in the region.

Near fifty establishments from different parts of the region such as Ponferrada, Bembibre, Cubillos del Sil, Domingo Flórez Bridge, Villafranca del Bierzo, Camponaraya or Caboalles de Abajo, to which the Vega de Espinareda Town Hall and the Neighborhood Board of San Andrés de Montejos, so far support the petition for eAsk the Ministry of Health of the Junta de Castilla y León a solution to a situation that continues in time and that has worsened in recent weeks with the resignation of the only titular specialist.
–The promoters of the citizens’ initiative, championed by the Ponferradina Eva María Arias, who fights against breast cancer, denounce the lack of personnel in the service and they understand that the reinforcement of doctors three afternoons a week from the León University Assistance Complex (CAULE) «is insufficient». A lack of professionals who join, in his opinion, to the “Little investment by the institutions, which implies a deficiency of technical means and a lack of maintenance of the facilities”.
