In the southern Dutch city of Eindhoven, all shops have to close at 4 p.m. due to crowds in the center. This was also the case in Dordrecht. In Rotterdam that was an hour later. And also in Amsterdam it was very busy Saturday afternoon.

Since 3 p.m., retailers in Eindhoven are no longer allowed to let in new customers. “Due to the crowds, people cannot keep a distance of 1.5 meters from each other. This puts public health at risk and we have to close the shops ”, says a spokesman for the municipality.

“Black Friday, Sinterklaas, Christmas shopping and a large influx from Belgium are the causes of the crowds,” says the Brabant-Southeast Safety Region. The municipal spokesperson does not want to anticipate Sunday, but “if the situation is comparable to today, these kinds of measures will also be necessary tomorrow,” he says. “We have been calling for two days to go to the city alone, and only when urgently needed. So hopefully that will help people to think again on Sunday before coming to the center. ”

Rotterdam also closed

The mayor of Rotterdam also decided it was too busy in the shops today. No one is allowed into the shops from 5 pm. The shops must all be empty by 6 pm. Normally those should be open until 8 pm on Saturday. The early closure does not apply to supermarkets.

On Friday, the mayor also closed the shops 45 minutes earlier because of crowds of people who wanted to quickly enjoy something from ‘Black Friday’.

The city of Dordrecht also closed all shops at 4 p.m., the mayor reported. And it was also very busy this afternoon in Amsterdam. That is why one-way traffic was used in certain places. And in Roermond, the outlet used to be closed due to the hustle and bustle.
