Eileen Gu lays hot soles on the streets of San Francisco

Eileen Gu was honored for her breakthrough at the ESPY Awards on July 20th.

Double Olympic champion Eileen Gu is not only acrobatic, but also has stamina: at the half marathon in San Francisco, the 18-year-old spontaneously ran an impressive run shortly after receiving the ESPY award.

First she received two honors in Los Angeles for her achievements at the Winter Olympics, then she put a hot sole on the street in San Francisco: It was actually more of a spontaneous decision by Eileen Gu (18) to take the last push Sign up for the San Francisco Half Marathon. But suddenly the ski freestyler started!

Because there the superstar of the Olympic Games in Beijing proved that she is not only acrobatic in the “Big Pipe” with skis on her feet – but that she is also really fast in running shoes!

Eileen Gu runs a half marathon in 100 minutes

Eileen Gu was really fast on the hilly streets of her hometown of San Francisco. At 1:40.51 hours, it was just a hair’s breadth over the demanding 100-minute mark over the 21.0975 kilometers.

“I only landed here 36 hours ago and registered spontaneously. But from mile 7 (11 kilometers, editor’s note) I was seized by the sporting spirit – and I wanted to see what was possible,” wrote Eileen Gu.

A whole lot obviously. “I’m totally hyped for second place in the under 19 age group. I’m still on a high. What a day,” said the queen of freestyle athletes at the Beijing Olympics, with gold medals in big air and freestyle and a silver medal in slopestyle.

“Beast,” commented skateboard star Nyjah Huston (27) on the extraordinary performance off the cuff. The extroverted ex-world fencing champion Miles Chamley-Watson (32) doesn’t quite believe her reluctance. “You crazy! I know you wanted to win!”

Just a few days earlier, Eileen Gu had cleared two categories of sports channel ESPN’s ESPY Awards, so she remains in the fast lane.

After endurance training on the streets of San Francisco, Eileen Gu moves on with her three lives – as celebrated sports star, model and student at Stanford University. The first 18-year-old American who sparked controversy when she started for China at the Olympics will continue to make headlines.
