Edy Mulyadi Was Also Reported to the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Police regarding ‘Genie Throws Children’

Jakarta

Executive Board of the Indonesian Muslim Student Union (PB SEMMI) reported Edy Mulyadi to Police Criminal Investigation yesterday. The report relates to Edy’s remarks that East Kalimantan is the ‘Place of Jin Throwing Children’.

PB SEMMI’s report is registered in LP/B/0031/I/2022/SPKT/BARESKRIM POLRI dated January 24, 2022. PB SEMMI brought evidence in the form of a flash disk containing a video of Edy’s statement which went viral in various media.

“We are accompanying the Head of the PB SEMMI, Bintang Wahyu Saputra, who have reported Edy Mulyadi at the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Police regarding his statement on YouTube alluding to East Kalimantan,” said Director of LBH PB SEMMI, Gurun Arisastra in a statement, Tuesday (25/01/2022).

Desert said it knew Edy Mulyadi had been reported in several areas. However, PB SEMMI, said Gurun, continued to report because he considered Edy’s words to have the potential to damage unity.

“We continue to report even though someone has reported it, because in our opinion his statement has the potential to damage unity and divide the nation,” he said.

Gurun said that Edy’s words were included in the spread of hoaxes to hate speech. He thinks this can cause division in society.

“Edy’s statement can lead to hate speech, insults for demeaning an area and hoax news. So for our sociological considerations, Edy Mulyadi’s actions have the potential to damage unity or divide the nation. This is dangerous,” he said.

In addition, Gurun regretted that the words could come from Edy Mulyadi, who is a public figure. He said Edy’s words could disturb people’s psychology.

“As a public figure, he should build an intelligent narrative, build the nation’s intelligence, not hatred,” said Gurun.

“That’s to say where the genie throws children away, keeps on mentioning China, then the inhabitants there are kuntilanak and genderuwo, then Azam Khan also says monkeys. We once again convey this, it is extremely dangerous for the psychological impact on society,” he wrote.

Gurun said that his party did not see Edy’s words as simple things. The moral obligation, said Gurun, was also the reason why his party reported Edy to the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Police.

“We see that this is not a simple case, it should be a serious concern for all of us and our moral obligation is to participate in reporting this, because even though the knowledge has been reported, it does not stop other parties from reporting it as well,” he said.

Desert revealed a number of articles reported by PB SEMMI in its lawsuit against Edy Mulyadi. These include articles on spreading false news, criminal acts of humiliation, and violations of Information and Electronic Transactions (ITE).

“For the crime of spreading false news (hoax) in article 14 paragraph (1) and paragraph (2) and or article 15 of Law Number 1 of 1946 on the Criminal Code, Crimes of Insult/Hate Speech/Hatespeech (via electronic media) as referred to in Article 45 a paragraph 2 juncto Article 28 paragraph 2 of Law Number 19 of 2016 on Amendments to Law Number 11 of 2008 on ITE, “he wrote.

“Criminal acts of hatred or hostility between individuals and/or between groups (SARA) as referred to in Article 156 of the Criminal Code Law Number 1 of 1946 concerning the Criminal Code,” he continued.

As is known, a number of residents of East Kalimantan (Kaltim) with various group backgrounds took to the streets to question the words of Edy Mulyadi who was suspected of committing insults by calling ‘a place to throw away jinn’. They asked Edy to be immediately arrested and imprisoned.

Monitoring detik.com, Monday (24/1/2022), demonstration participants held actions at three points, namely the East Kalimantan DPRD, the Governor’s office, and the Samarinda Police. Edy’s words about the ‘place to dispose of the genie’ are considered to hurt the hearts of the people of East Kalimantan.

“Why are we demonstrating here, we ask for moral support from the executive and legislative branches of what Edy Mulyadi said because his words really hurt and injure the hearts of the people of Kalimantan,” said action coordinator Fuad Assegaf to AFP at the Samarinda Police.
