Edwin Beeler gave an insight into his film

Ideally supported by the association: Edwin Beeler presented his film

Filmmaker Edwin Beeler presented excerpts from his film “Bruder Klaus” at the meeting of the Niklaus von Flüe and Dorothee Wyss association.

Those present received a preview of the new film about Brother Klaus.

Nobody would have guessed that the core topic of the Niklaus von Flüe and Dorothee Wyss association would suddenly become so topical. Long before the war in the Ukraine, the board of directors placed the theme of “peace” and Niklaus von Flüe’s message of peace at the center of the orientation and activities of the association. President Franz Enderli looked back at the activities in his annual review at the association’s third general assembly.

The multi-year project “Peace – Work and Gift”, which was newly launched in April 2022, will be continued with an autumn event on October 22 on the topic “Peace with Nature”, the association writes in a statement.

Sainthood activities

Franz Enderli represented the association on the organizational committee of the celebrations surrounding the 75th anniversary of the canonization of Brother Klaus from May 13th to 17th, 2022 in Sachseln. The cabinet exhibition “Holy Proclamation 1947”, curated by Doris Hellmüller on behalf of the Friends of the Brother Klaus Museum, is showing photos and finds as well as stories by contemporary witnesses until July 10, 2022. Among them for the first time the model of the more than 4 meter high Brother Klaus statue by the Eastern Swiss artist Albert Wider, which was erected on the celebration square in Flüeli for the canonization. On May 17, as part of the 75th anniversary of the canonization, the Reformed pastor Fritz Gloor explained the Reformed view of the 1947 canonization canonization is a no-go.

Around 3650 individual members from all over Switzerland and abroad as well as 7 collective and 22 solidarity members support the tasks of the association. For the association, which is financed solely by membership fees and donations, the support of members is central. The assembly approved the 2021 accounts and the 2022 budget unanimously. Finally, Mayor Peter Rohrer thanked the association for its activities and emphasized their importance for Sachseln and the canton of Obwalden.

The association provided non-material support for the restoration and digitization of Edwin Beeler’s cinema documentary “Bruder Klaus”. After the meeting, the Lucerne filmmaker showed excerpts from the contemporary document from 1991, in which protagonists from Obwalden and Nidwalden talk about the importance of Brother Klaus. Among them the former Nidwalden government councilor Bruno Leuthold and Adalbert Durrer, then building director in Obwalden. The film will be shown on June 3rd at 7 p.m. in the parish home in Sachseln. Afterwards there will be a panel with Edwin Beeler, brother Klaus biographer Roland Gröbli and the theater woman Marlène Wirthner.
