In a current hour at the request of the opposition SPD, MPs want to discuss how to close the gaps. There is still a shortage of most teachers in primary schools. According to the SPD, side entry needs to be made easier and more attractive in all types of schools. Places for teaching, special education and social education are expected to be expanded massively. Universities of applied sciences should also be more involved in teacher training, especially in the field of mathematics and science (MINT).

NRW school minister Dorothee Feller (CDU) wants to present a package of measures to improve the offer of lessons next Wednesday (December 14) in the school board. The Black-Green state government’s draft budget for 2023 projects more than 5,000 additional jobs in schools. According to Feller, more than 3,300 jobs are planned for schooling refugee children and youth from Ukraine and other countries.

According to Feller, nearly 8,000 teachers and other educational staff were hired last year. The fact that many teachers are still missing is also due to the tense situation on the national labor market for teachers.

The CDU, the Greens and the opposition FDP also want to extend the state aid for the victims of the Bottrop pharmacist scandal to a wider group of beneficiaries and extend the application period by three months until the end of March 2023. A to this end, a joint proposal by the three parliamentary groups was presented to the plenum. So far, the state parliament has allocated ten million euros for state aid.

The SPD has presented its application and is asking for the compensation fund to be increased to twelve million euros. In this case, a pharmacist had underdosed expensive active ingredients for cancer drugs for years, making illegal profits in the millions.
