The speech of the rector of the Academy of Créteil, Daniel Auverlot, took place this Monday, January 24 in a context of crisis within schools, disrupted by Covid-19 and the spread of the Omicron variant. The Rector announced his forecasts for the back to school 2022. According to him, there will be a reduction in the workforce… But an increase in resources. Explanations.
13,000 fewer students
There will be fewer students in much of theCreteil Academy, according to the first forecasts of the latter… And it is rather unexpected, as Daniel Auverlot explains: “This demographic decline is a phenomenon that we had not anticipated”. The academy indeed loses 13,000 students over two years in the 1st degree. The temptation of private or home education? “We looked to see if there was a leak to the private sector or to the home investigation, but there is nothing, continues the rector. We don’t know what caused it.”
What he finds, however, is that the trend seems similar in the academies of Paris and Versailles. All the departments of the Créteil academy are also affected by this drop in numbers, with fewer than 1,200 students in Seine-et-Marne, fewer than 6,700 students in Seine-Saint-Denis, fewer than 5,300 students in Val- de-Marne.
Same thing in the second degree: the academy of Créteil provides for a significant drop in college, less in high school. In the departments of Seine-Saint-Denis and Val-de-Marne, the rector foresees a significant drop in college, and more relative in Seine-et-Marne.
new jobs
But the rector of the academy promises one thing: this surprise drop will not be synonymous with job cuts. “This drop in staff could have led to a loss of 500 jobs. However, we are creating 210 at the academic level,” announced Daniel Auverlot. And to add:
“Historically, there have never been so many resources allocated to the 1st degree in the Créteil academy”
The supervision rate will drop from 5.89 to 6.01 teachers per 100 students at the level of the Créteil academy.
Staff ratio 2022 by department
Val de Marne
From 5.69 teachers for 100 students in 2021, the supervision rate drops to 5.82.
Seine-Saint-Denis
From 6.43 teachers for 100 students in 2021, the supervision rate drops to 6.56.
Seine et Marne
From 5.42 teachers for 100 students in 2021, the supervision rate drops to 5.50.

The stated goal? “Reinforce the discharges of management, open Ulis classes (Localized unit for inclusive education, editor’s note), and continue the duplication of classes in large kindergarten sections in the REPs (priority education networks, editor’s note)”, indicates Daniel Auverlot.
These announcements come as strike movements have taken place in recent weeks, mobilizing a good part of education professionals, to demand more resources in the face of Covid and the replacement of absent teachers.
“We are like at the Post Office, the SNCF, the RATP, at Carrefour or at Auchan, where all the natural persons who should be there are not. The Créteil academy indicates that contract workers continue to be recruited in the 1st degree. “Since September, 500 contract workers have been recruited,” says Gérard Marin, secretary general of the Créteil academy.
