Kiel (dpa / lno) – The SPD has called for a faster pace in the implementation of the digital pact schools in the north. “No other federal state is making slower progress with the federal and state digital pact than Schleswig-Holstein,” said SPD education politician Martin Habersaat of the German press agency. “Not even three percent of the project funds have been called up so far.”

According to the Ministry of Education, Schleswig-Holstein will receive a total of 170 million euros under the digital pact by 2024. Of this, 153 million euros are earmarked for investments in schools and 8.5 million euros each for regional and state-wide investments by the state and transnational projects. As of the end of 2020, however, funding of 4.9 million euros had only been approved for projects in schools, while 1.02 million euros were paid out to the school authorities. There were also commitments for nationwide investments of 2 million euros.

Habersaat attributes the slow pace to poor framework conditions. Public schools must add at least 15 percent of their own money to the funding. Only financially weak municipalities do not have to pay their own contribution.
