Education – Gütersloh:Saarland at the bottom of the country comparison among part-time students

Gütersloh / Saarland (dpa / lrs) – In Saarland, the proportion of part-time students among the students is overall lower than in any other federal state – although there are comparatively many opportunities for part-time studies. This emerges from an evaluation of data from the Federal Statistical Office by the Center for University Development (CHE), which is available to the German Press Agency.
According to this, 121 part-time students made up only 0.4 percent of the approximately 31,000 students at the Saar in the 2018/2019 winter semester. According to the CHE, the rate was significantly higher in Hamburg (20.7 percent) or in North Rhine-Westphalia (12.9). Across Germany, according to the information, 214,000 people studied part-time in 2018/19. That was 11,000 more students than in the same period last year.
The fact that the number of part-time students is still comparatively low is due, for example, to the conditions and the limited range of courses. The latter, however, is rather abundant in Saarland: According to the information, two out of three courses can also be studied part-time. With 188 offers, the state occupies the top position nationwide.
