Education – Erfurt – Holter: tightening of the corona rules for schools – education

Erfurt (dpa / th) – According to Thuringia’s Minister of Education, Helmut Holter (left), Thuringians have to adjust to stricter corona rules in schools. He expects increased infection control measures in schools, said Holter of the German Press Agency with a view to the talks between the Prime Minister and Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) planned for Wednesday. “I assume that there will certainly be split classes in the upper classes at grammar schools and vocational schools – and that there will also be alternating lessons or the requirement to wear a mask,” said Holter.

Nothing has been decided yet, but the left-wing politician emphasized that it was beginning to show itself. In Thuringia, students and teachers have to wear mouth and nose protection in the corridors and in places of the respective school where many people come relatively close. For a long time, however, the Free State was clearly against compulsory masking in teaching, as is already the case in some federal states.

Holter emphasized that he still did not find a general mask requirement in class a good thing. In his opinion, it is difficult for both teachers and students to go through six hours of class or more with a mask. “The quality of the teaching is different. I find it an additional burden for everyone involved,” said Holter.

At the latest announcement by the state minister of education on Friday, he insisted that each school be considered individually for this measure. “If there is no infection at a school, then there is no need to wear a mask,” said Holter.
