EduCaixa’s Creactivity bus travels through La Palma to promote design and creativity among boys and girls

The EduCaixa Creactivity bus runs through different towns on the islands until mid-April, offering a space designed to awaken the ingenuity, dexterity and creativity of boys and girls. From this Monday, February 22 until Friday, March 5, the bus can be visited on the island of La Palma, where it will stop in the municipalities of El Paso, Los Llanos de Aridane, Fuencaliente and Santa Cruz de La Palma.

This traveling project aims to promote the design and development of original solutions for simple problems. Schoolchildren participate in workshops with everyday materials, low-tech and high-tech tools to bring their own ideas to life. It is a mobile unit fully adapted for people with reduced mobility, facilitating both their access and participation throughout the activity. The vehicle is equipped inside with benches, work tables and various tests arranged for schoolchildren.

The space has different areas to put into practice different skills: the Mechanics area, with spaces for gears, machines, marbles and pinball; the Wind zone, with wind tubes; the Electricity zone, and the Light zone, with the system stopmotion.

Characterized by its playful and collaborative component, the space allows researching with materials, planning, creating new designs, using common materials and looking for new functions for them, through open and interdisciplinary proposals that encompass science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics. Other more transversal skills are also worked on, such as cooperative learning habits, self-knowledge for learning, creating and carrying out projects.

The workshops are aimed at primary and secondary school groups, mainly between 6 and 16 years old, as well as family groups. A facilitator accompanies the children through a creation process in which the accompanying adults, whether they are teachers or family members, are also invited to participate. The sessions have an estimated duration of 90 minutes.

Tinkering movement: the ability to improvise creatively

The Creactivity learning system is inspired by the Tinkering movement at the San Francisco Exploratorium, which was born from the movement Maker (The Making), which mixes digital and physical technologies for the creative design, construction and personalization of objects and artifacts with a playful or utilitarian objective.

It is a new paradigm that places creativity and design at the center. Games that propose improvised problem solving prepare children to face new challenges creatively, and prepare them to feel comfortable in a constantly changing society.
