Edson Álvarez is about to arrive at West Ham United. There is already an agreement with Ajax for the cost of the transfer.
That is what the journalist Fabrizio Romano indicates, who warns that the deal is done.
The winner of the Conference League will pay 40 million euros for the Mexican.
Alvarez is expected to fly to London today for a medical, after which he will sign with the Hammers.
After weeks of negotiations, West Ham and Ajax have reached an agreement on the price of Álvarez.
According to Romano, the Amsterdam team managed to boost the offer that the London club had made to them on Saturday. Last weekend, West Ham made a proposal of 34.7 million euros, De Telegraaf reported.
Ajax’s director of football affairs Sven Mislintat made a counter offer which the Londoners accepted.
Edson had been wanting to leave Amsterdam for some time and previously reached an agreement with the Londoners for a contract until mid-2028.
He will set foot in England in the following hours and there he will carry out the last paperwork, after which he will be a West Ham player.
He has been drawn to the Premier League since last summer. A year ago he was able to go to Chelsea, which at that time had 63.25 million euros to buy him.
Ajax managed to stay in contention, but in the winter break the top English club asked for him again.
He put in 50 million euros, but the Amsterdam team held on again. He also promised Álvarez to cooperate in a summer assignment.
They competed with Mexico in the Gold Cup and were crowned champions after the disappointing 2022/23 season.
Meanwhile, Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich and West Ham all competed for his signature. The best German clubs dropped out, but the English squad continued.
Now it already has the successor of Declan Rice, after the agreement with Ajax.
The former West Ham captain moved to Arsenal this summer for a reported €122m.
El Guerrero signed Álvarez from América in the summer of 2019 for 15 million euros. He played a total of 147 official matches in the Amsterdam team jersey and was crowned the Dutch national champion twice with the club.
Last season, Edson played 43 times for Ajax and scored times. The Amsterdam club loses another stronghold with the transfer of the 69-time international.
Jurriën Timber previously left for Arsenal for €42m (excluding bonuses).
