Anti-corruption protesters gathered at the EDSA Shrine in Quezon City Saturday morning to demonstrate against alleged irregularities in flood control projects. Members of the group Bayan began assembling outside the National Shrine of Mary, Queen of Peace, located at the corner of EDSA and Ortigas Avenue, according to a report by Mark Makalalad for Super Radyo dzBB.
The protest was initially slated to begin at 8:30 a.m., but was delayed to allow for the arrival of additional participants. Bayan plans to march to the People Power Monument on White Plains Avenue at 9:30 a.m.
Protesters allege that funds earmarked for public projects and services are being diverted for personal gain by corrupt politicians and government contractors.
Authorities have deployed police officers to the area to maintain security during the exhibition. – RF, GMA Integrated News
