Eddie Murphy urged the actors to “never play in a spaceship” at the Critics’ Choice Awards.
The 58-year-old star received the Lifetime Achievement award, in honor of his entire career – at the prestigious awards ceremony which took place at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, Sunday evening (12.01.20) – and he made reference to his role in ‘Call Me Dave’ of 2008 – which had flopped when he left – during his moving acceptance speech.
He said to the audience in the audience: “I played everything [tout au long de sa carrière d’acteur], I was a policeman and a thief, a doctor and a teacher, I played characters of different origins I was an animal, I was a donkey.
“I even played once in a spaceship. It’s the only thing that when young actors come up to me on the street and say,” Do you have any advice? “
“I answer them:” Never play play a spaceship. “
In 2021, Eddie Murphy – who has been asked to join the stage by actor Keegan-Michael Key, with whom he plays in ‘Dolemite Is My Name’ available on Netflix – will celebrate his 40th career anniversary, and the latter described his work as “a privilege and a blessing”.
He added: “Next year, I’ll be making films for 40 years.
“I’ve been doing this for a while, and being able to make a living as an actor is a privilege and a blessing, just like being able to make people laugh – you’re the luckiest person on Earth when you can do that. “
Besides, the one who was a regular of ‘Saturday Night Live’ at the time, said that the recognition came back after living a “big year”, in 2019, where he could make his comeback as a guest on the iconic comedy show in the United States, for the first time in 35 years.
In an emotional moment, Eddie said, “This is perfectly timed. I had a great year, and it’s a great way to end the year on a high note.
“And thank you, at the Critics’ Choice Awards, for giving me something in recognition of all of my work. I really appreciate [ce geste]. “
