Ed Sheeran Announces Third Album of 2024, ‘Rewind,’ Following ‘-‘ and ‘Play‘
Ed Sheeran is set to release his third studio album of 2024, titled ‘Rewind,’ continuing a prolific creative period for the artist. The declaration comes as Sheeran prepares for a UK and European arena tour slated for December 2025, and follows the release of ‘-‘ (Subtract) and ‘Play’ earlier this year.
Sheeran’s rapid succession of albums reflects a purposeful shift in his approach to record-making. he explained that ‘rewind’ was constructed with a focus on creating a cohesive listening experience beyond simply compiling potential hit singles. “With each album you have the songs you think are the singles, and than in the gaps… basically you have to do purposeful songs rather than having 10 singles,” Sheeran said. He emphasized the importance of tracks like ‘Azizam,’ ‘Sapphire,’ ‘Old Phone,’ and ‘A Little More’ in providing “a journey and purpose” to the album.the forthcoming album arrives after a particularly significant period of personal and artistic exploration for Sheeran. ‘Play’ was described by the artist as a “direct response to the darkest period of my life,” a project intended to embrace “joy and technicolour, and explore cultures in the countries I was touring.” He completed the album in Goa, India, calling the creative process “fun, explorative,” and adopting a ”Why the fuck not?” attitude toward experimentation.Sheeran previously indicated a plan to release new music frequently, aiming for a cadence of “every sort of two, three weeks.” ‘Rewind’ is expected to continue this pattern of consistent output, building on the diverse sonic landscapes established in his recent work.
