The Department of Political, Peace and Security Affairs of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), in collaboration with the Ghana National Peace Council, is organizing an interactive training workshop with political actors and stakeholders in Ghana, from September 4 to 11, 2024.
This workshop aims to enable participants to learn about the principles of ECOWAS constitutional convergence (as defined in the 2001 Additional Protocol on Democracy and Good Governance) as well as other frameworks that governs clear and peaceful elections. It also allows us to reiterate the commitment of ECOWAS and the National Peace Council to dialogue and mediation processes to resolve electoral disputes.
The workshop will also provide a platform for structured, multi-stakeholder dialogue between representatives of political parties, security agencies, the Election Commission (EC) and civil society organizations (CSO) on related issues. to the group and to the conduct of the next general elections. on December 7, 2024. In a message of support, the representative of the Electoral Commission of Ghana, Ms. Florence Mensah, welcomed the partnership between ECOWAS and the National Peace Council, stressing the Electoral Commission’s readiness to hold free, fair, peaceful and organize inclusive. he expressed the Council’s gratitude to the ECOWAS Commission for this proactive and preventive initiative aimed at strengthening the capacity of key stakeholders to organize free, fair, credible and transparent elections.
Among the participants are representatives of the National Peace Council, the Electoral Commission, political parties, security agencies, the Christian Council, the Office of the National Grand Imam, the National House of Chiefs, as well as civil society groups, giving including youth and women. organizations, and the media that play a key role in preventing and reducing election-related conflicts.
