Economy | Black Friday, a buying fever from the United States

The term Black Friday first appeared in the United States in the 1960s. Versions differ as to the origin of the phrase. For some, the name “Black Friday” could come from traffic jams on the roads and in American stores the day after Thanksgiving. This day always falls on a Friday. Many Americans take time off that day so they can bridge the gap. They then flock to the stores to take advantage of post-Thanksgiving promotions. And also “Closing the day of Black Friday is a strong commitment” (Sandrine Conseiller – Aigle) Others evoke a completely different reason. Traders across the Atlantic, when doing their accounts by hand, once used red ink when making their accounts.
