Why didn’t Brazil approve it?
A week ago, on March 30, Brazil refused to grant a necessary certificate for the use of the Indian anticovid vaccine Covaxin, after analyzing the risks that its application would represent in this South American country.
The National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa, regulator) said in a statement that it had rejected the so-called “good practice certificate” presented by the company responsible for the vaccine, Bharat Biotech.
This authorization is one of the previous steps so that vaccines such as Covaxin can be used in this country, the second in the whole world in terms of the accumulated level of infected by the new coronavirus and deceased by Covid-19, after the United States.
The decision on the certificate required by Covaxin was taken after Anvisa representatives carried out an inspection at the Indian company’s factory between March 1-5.
Paraguay also authorizes its use
Paraguay, at the tail end of the region in immunization against Covid, will be able to use the 100,000 vaccines donated by India that it kept in storage after the authorization this Tuesday from the Mexican health regulatory body for the emergency use of Covaxin.
The announcement of the Federal Commission for the Protection Against Sanitary Risks of Mexico (Cofepris) was published on his twitter account by the Paraguayan president, Mario Abdo Benítez, whose government is questioned by the slowness of the vaccination campaign, which at the moment only it affects white personnel.
For its part, from the Ministry of Health announced a press conference this Wednesday to inform about the procedure to be followed from now on.
