According to the BMKG, what happens when responding to a (natural) disaster will tend to be in close proximity (crammed). This can happen for many reasons. For example, a limited place, for example an evacuation place, as well as to get a sense of security and comfort.
This is of course a challenge in itself when evacuating in Covid-19 conditions where people have to keep their distance (physical distancing).
“The crowded situation while in the evacuation site could cause the place to become a center for the corona virus infection (infection epicenter),” wrote BMKG.
Therefore, when people feel a strong shaking or an earthquake that swings weakly but for a long time, it is hoped that they will immediately evacuate independently without waiting for tsunami early warnings or evacuation orders from the authorities.
Maintain Physical Distance
In carrying out independent evacuations, as much as possible the community is urged to pay attention to physical distancing, wear masks, and must follow the Large-Scale Social Restriction (PSBB) policy in their respective regions (especially for areas implementing PSBB).
This applies immediately after an earthquake and / or other triggers (underwater landslides or volcanic eruptions at sea), when a tsunami strikes, until after the tsunami threat is declared over.
