The manufacturer of e-bikes, cargo bikes and folding bikes is constructing a new building in the tissue park in Mältal Nieder-Ramstadt – and is hiring new staff.

Just two years after relocating the company headquarters from Weiterstadt to the industrial park in the Nieder-Ramstadt district of Mühltal, the Riese & Müller company has already had to expand. The manufacturer of high-quality e-bikes and cargo bikes is expanding its location with a new building for administration and production. In addition, the company announced that it would hire more than 60 new employees to manufacture the e-bikes by April. Large-scale advertising posters have also been booked at the company’s former headquarters in Darmstadt in order to find new staff.

According to the company, the new building will be erected in the eastern part of the company’s premises and will provide space for two new production units, the development and service department and additional office space. Construction work is scheduled to begin in May 2021. It is planned to finish the construction work in July next year.

Heiko Müller, the founder and managing director of the bicycle manufacturer, announced that the global demand for electrically powered bicycles and cargo bikes had risen sharply again last year. The company management expects the trend to continue “and more and more people are discovering the e-bike as a healthy and sustainable means of transport,” said Müller.

The enterprise

Riese & Müller manufactures e-bikes, cargo bikes and folding bikes. The company was founded in 1993 by Markus Riese and Heiko Müller. It employs 550 people in Mühltal near Darmstadt and sells its bikes worldwide through an exclusive network of specialist dealers.

Next to the two founders Sandra Wolf has been responsible for the company’s strategic direction as managing director since 2013. jjo

In order to be able to meet the national and international growth flexibly in the future, the management decided to further expand the production capacities. According to Müller, the new building should offer additional space for e-bike assembly and important upstream and downstream processes as well as optimal working conditions for the steadily growing number of employees.

In addition to the main building that we moved into two years ago, a new warehouse was already put into operation last August.

The third building is to provide space for two more production lines, parts of the dispatch department, a generously designed development center, an expanded service department and additional office and seminar rooms. A further 10,000 square meters of usable space will then be available directly next to the main building on a total of three floors.

Like the existing buildings, the new building is to be built in accordance with the latest energy and ecological standards. There are also plans to install a photovoltaic system on the roof in order to fully supply the building with solar power. In the future, rainwater is to be stored in a cistern and used as service water in order to reduce drinking water consumption to a minimum.
