Relatives of An Marchal and Eefje Lambrecks commemorated the 25th anniversary of their disappearance on Sunday in Hasselt, while they were on vacation at the Belgian Coast.
Their bodies were found a year and 12 days later, in Jumet, next to a house of their kidnapper Marc Dutroux. “25 years ago we were brutally confronted with the harsh reality: we had to look for our child, then we had to look for the truth”, expressed Paul Marchal, the father of An. “Since then, we have to learn to live with resilience.”
A minute of silence
The ceremony took place at the Hasselt / CCHA cultural center and not near the monument dedicated to girls in the city park. Attendance was also limited due to the rules in force to stem the spread of the new coronavirus, so the ceremony was broadcast by local television TV Limburg.
It was An’s father who spoke after a minute of silence. He justified his report to the media, recalling that they had been one of the keys in the search for his daughter and her friend, while asking them to draw attention only to the essence of the case, and to right moment.
