“Dutch Tourists Rescued by Helicopter in Romania’s Fagaras Mountains”

Two Dutch tourists were rescued in Romania on Tuesday from a steep mountainside on which they had been stuck since Monday evening. The rescue in Transylvania’s Fagaras Mountains required a helicopter as rescuers could not reach the site on foot, Romania’s mountain rescue service reports. Facebook.

The mountain rescue service received a call Tuesday morning from hikers who had heard cries for help near the mountainside. Then a major search began. A trauma helicopter from Brasov, the nearest large city, was also called for this.

When the Dutch were found, rescuers tried to hoist them into the helicopter with a winch. Those attempts failed, after which the helicopter flew away to pick up an extra rescue worker. With his help, it was later possible to hoist the Dutchmen on board.
