The drama took place on Friday evening around 8.30 pm on the terrace of restaurant La Scaleta. The man choked on a piece of meat. A restaurant worker tried to resuscitate the man, but with little success. The emergency services also tried, but in vain.

,,They have been working on him for over an hour, but then had to give up. A doctor then pronounced the man dead,” restaurant director Arnoud Gourdon told the AD.
The terrace area where the Dutchman lay was covered with tablecloths. The remaining guests were then evacuated. According to the director, other Dutch tourists offered help to his wife, who was at her wits’ end.
“It will be a while before we can serve this dish again without having to think about the Dutchman,” said the restaurant director.
