Dutch Film Festival starts: how did the film sector get through corona?

Those who participated in the series had to be constantly tested, but that was no problem according to Kuijpers. “Everyone contributed to this, because everyone wants to stay healthy and work.”

For the series, the crew would initially also travel throughout Europe. “That was no longer possible. So we built sets in the studio. That is a craft that has almost died out in the Netherlands. In the end it worked and we are satisfied with the result.”

Visual effects

Marc Warmerdam, who was involved as producer on Nr 10, his brother Alex’s latest film that will also premiere at the NFF, also faced challenges. “We were lucky to have just finished running when the pandemic broke out, so we thought the weather wouldn’t be much affected.”

That was a miscalculation: the post-processing took much more time due to corona. “The visual effects are normally made by a team of 20 people led by a supervisor. You can watch right away. Now everyone was working from home and something was always sent in for review, and then you had to send it back. Much more cumbersome. ” As a result, the film was still delayed, but that didn’t matter much, says Warmerdam. “The cinemas were closed anyway.”
