Dutch company accused of scams with mouth masks against coronavirus

The victims are, according to the NOS, a company from Great Britain and a Sino-Australian entrepreneur. The Royal Netherlands Marechaussee only confirms to the ANP news agency that it concerns ‘foreign companies’.

Family in Wuhan

The Sino-Australian entrepreneur was looking for a large number of mouth caps for the Chinese government, according to the NOS, because he has family and friends in Wuhan, where the corona virus outbreak began. With the delivery, he wanted to do something about the shortage of mouth masks in China. He hired the Brit to help with the purchase.

The entrepreneurs made a down payment and traveled to the Netherlands last weekend to view the masks. But no one showed up at the appointment made in an hotel in Amsterdam. In the first instance, the Purmerend company said it was still delayed by a meeting, but it also remained silent at subsequent appointments.

Bitcoins

After the British entrepreneur had threatened to go to the police on Thursday, he said the company from Purmerend was no longer available by phone. He did receive an email with the request to withdraw all charges and to pay the remaining 70 percent of the bill in bitcoins. The entrepreneurs reported yesterday.

The NOS says to have seen the declaration and purchase agreement. The company from Purmerend was also unavailable for comment from the broadcaster.
