At present, the incidence of Covid-19 in Latvia has increased again, compared to the previous week, it has increased by 29.8%, according to the latest reports of the Center for Disease Prevention and Control (SPKC).

An average of 7,468 tests per day were performed last week (previously 7,184 tests) and an average of 60 new cases of Covid-19 were detected per day. A week earlier, there were 46 cases a day.
Over the past seven days, an average of four Covid-19 patients per day were hospitalized, and an average of 44 people were hospitalized daily (up from 53).
During the last two weeks, the incidence has increased by 31.1% among 20-29 year olds, but by 22.4% there has been an increase among 10-19 year olds. Also in the age group 30-49 an increase of 17.7%. The largest number of newly discovered cases of Covid-19 was in Riga, Pieriga and Kurzeme, the SPKC informed.
The reproductive rate (R) of Covid-19 infection has increased to 1.2 (a week earlier – 1.14), which reaches the beginning of May, indicating that the prevalence of Covid-19 in Latvia is increasing, moreover, the growth rate is also increasing, according to SPKC.
The average 14-day cumulative morbidity rate per 100,000 inhabitants of European countries has increased to 200.4 (previously – 151.0), while the indicator of Latvia has increased to 30.5 (previously 27.7).
The proportion of Covid-19 cases imported to Latvia in the previous week decreased to 15.1% (previously 27%), and last week they were a total of 63 cases (87 a week earlier).
During the week from 25 to 30, the most common cases in Latvia came from Russia – 63 cases, Turkey – 45, Great Britain – 36, Spain – 33, Netherlands – 15, France – 14, Georgia – 14, Finland – 14, Uzbekistan – nine , Bulgaria and Germany – seven.
The SPCC calls on the public to be vaccinated against Covid-19, as vaccination is the safest and most effective way to protect themselves from severe forms of the disease and to work together to reduce the spread of Covid-19 infection in society.
