Dumoulin takes away his last doubts and starts in the time trial at World Championships | NOW

Tom Dumoulin has decided that he will start on behalf of the Netherlands at the World Championship time trial in Italy on Friday. The Jumbo-Visma rider took another blow in the past week.

29-year-old Dumoulin was already in the selection of national coach Koos Moerenhout, but wanted to wait and see how he would digest the Tour de France. De Limburger, however, feels good enough.

Dumoulin, who finished the Tour as number seven in the standings, is one of the favorites for the gold in the nearly 32-kilometer time trial in Imola. Jos van Emden is the other Dutch asset.

In Sunday’s road race, Dumoulin is the leader of the Dutch team, which also consists of Antwan Tolhoek, Pascal Eenkhoorn, Dylan van Baarle, Pieter Weening, Sam Oomen, Martijn Tusveld and Nick van der Lijke.

The World Championship in Imola starts on Thursday with the time trial for women, in which Anna van der Breggen and Ellen van Dijk participate on behalf of the Netherlands. All permanent employees are present at the road race on Saturday, although the name of Annemiek van Vleuten still has a small question mark.

Last year, the World Cup yielded five Dutch medals among the elite. Van Vleuten was the only one who won an individual gold medal: she secured the rainbow jersey at the road race.
