Expert Analyzes NATO’s Future at World ⁢Affairs Council ‌of Central Illinois

Gordon Duguid, Visiting professor‍ in Diplomacy and International Affairs at
⁢ Illinois State University, addressed 175 members of the ​World Affairs⁢ council
of Central Illinois (WACCI) on September 30th at the ‍Illini Country Club in
Springfield.

Duguid’s presentation, titled Facing ‍Shifting Geopolitical Tides –
‌ What’s Next for⁤ NATO
, ⁢provided ⁢a ⁤ancient overview of ‌the
⁢ organization ‍and a‌ detailed analysis of the⁢ current situation in ⁣Russia and
its implications for Ukraine.⁤ He explored potential strategies for NATO ⁣and
the ⁤European Union to support Ukraine amidst ongoing challenges.

​ A key argument⁣ presented by Duguid centered on the need for a strengthened
​ security partnership⁢ between the United States,⁢ the European Union, and NATO.
⁤ He emphasized NATO’s imperative ‌to adapt and evolve ⁣to effectively address
​ ​emerging threats to ‌European⁢ security. Following his remarks, Duguid engaged
‌ with the audience for​ over an hour, answering questions and fostering
⁣ discussion.

Prior to the evening’s main‍ event, Professor Duguid engaged with students
‌ from Springfield High ⁣School and Lincoln Land Community College. These
⁢ meetings focused⁢ on career paths within the foreign service and the
educational readiness offered ​at Illinois State University for those
⁤ ‍ aspiring to public service.

On October ⁢1st,Duguid continued his outreach by lecturing students at the
University of Illinois at Springfield on current geopolitical trends and the
academic ‌study of international relations.
