Due to the spread of Covid-19, it is encouraged to introduce two-week restrictions in Daugavpils and Kuldiga

At the extraordinary government meeting on Wednesday, the Minister of Health Ilze Ņķele (AP) informed about the current situation with the spread of Covid-19,

There are two large outbreaks of the virus in Latvia – in Daugavpils and Kuldiga, and one smaller one – in Olaine.

Analyzing the data on the situation in Daugavpils, Vinkele admitted that in this city Covid-19 infection mostly occurs among children and young people aged ten to 19 years. Infection with Covid-19 is mainly related to sports activities, namely sports teams and their support staff.

Given the prevalence of Covid-19 in Daugavpils and Kuldiga, Vinkele called for restrictive measures to be introduced in these cities for two weeks, namely to suspend interest education activities for two weeks, to limit the opening hours of catering services to midnight, allowing no more than eight people to be at the table, as well as the obligation to wear face masks on public transport and in places where it is not possible to keep a distance.

Municipalities and public authorities are also encouraged to work remotely.

According to the Minister of Health,

in order to introduce such local restrictions, an order of the Prime Minister is required. Maybe this could happen during this day.

It has already been reported that 95 cases of Covid-19 cases were registered in Latvia last day, which is the largest number of cases detected per day so far, according to the data compiled by the Center for Disease Prevention and Control (SPKC).

According to the information available to the SPKC, 63 patients have been infected from previously known sources of infection, four have been infected abroad – in Ukraine, Russia and Austria, but the conditions of infection are being clarified for 28 persons and the epidemiological investigation is ongoing.
