Borrowed pearl necklace

Present at the funeral were, among others, Prince William (38) and Duchess Kate (39). Around the neck, the latter wore a Japanese pearl and diamond piece of jewelry, a piece of jewelry belonging to Queen Elizabeth – and which, according to Daily Mail, Princess Diana once also wore, in 1982.

According to the newspaper, she was wearing the pearl necklace at the time during a banquet with Queen Beatrix and Prince Claus of the Netherlands.

Duchess Kate, who had a very good relationship with her husband’s grandfather, also wore earrings – also from the queen’s personal collection. She also wore a black face mask and a hat of the same color.

However, this is not the first time that the Duchess has worn this piece of jewelry. She wore the same decoration when she and Prince William were present to celebrate Queen Elizabeth and the late Prince Philips’ 70th wedding anniversary at Windsor Castle in 2017.

30 present

Ahead of Saturday’s ceremony, it was already known that Prince Philip himself would have wanted a much more subdued funeral than is usual for the royals.

He also fulfilled that wish.

Much of it is, of course, due to the pandemic, which meant that only those closest took part in Saturday’s ceremony. In advance, the family also went out with a list of the names of the 30 people who were to be present.

Among them was Prince Harry. Duchess Meghan had announced in advance that she had no opportunity.

Met again

Saturday’s funeral was also the first time Harry and William performed in public together since Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan retired from royal life last spring.

The eyes of the whole world were on the prince brothers, who have had a pretty cool relationship in recent years, something that came out in Harry and Meghans much talked about interview with Oprah Winfrey.

Harry and William went, however not next to each other in the procession to the chapel. Between them went cousin Peter Phillips (43), princess Anne’s (70) son. She also joined the entourage, along with brothers Prince Charles (72), Prince Andrew (61) and Prince Edward (57).
