I will not build suspense. DualSense is an excellent pad. And honestly – I can’t imagine playing anything else.
–
At first and second glance, you can see a strong inspiration for the Xbox console. The new DualSense is slightly larger than its predecessor, but at the same time perfectly balanced. It’s a bit rough on the back, but the roughness hides a little flavor. Oh such.

PlayStation 5 DualSense – haptic technology
We heard more about the mythical haptic vibrations and the equally legendary adaptive triggers before the premiere of PlayStation 5 than about the console itself. But how do you check all of this when the PS5 comes home without any games? The Japanese predicted this problem and on board each console we find preloaded “Astro’s Playroom”.
–
It’s like a simple game, closer to a technical demo, but it was just created to show everything that DualSense hides inside. You can feel it from the very first moment. The title Astro makes the pad vibrate gently while walking. If we walk on a hard, metallic surface, the vibration is more noticeable. When we go to the beach, it changes. I had a real sense that I could feel sand under my feet – even though I hold the pad in my hand.
–
But it is not everything. “Astro’s Playroom” is a purebred 3D platformer that takes us through the history of PlayStation. We can find there various memorabilia like PSX, mouse for it or LCD screen for PS One. And those that we do not find, we can draw randomly from a slot machine.
I am writing about it only because this is where adaptive triggers come into play. Pull the lever by pressing R2, but it is clearly jamming. Feel the resistance under your finger. We have to release the button and press it again. The resistance disappears, the lever returns to its place.
–
Now L2. The ball from said machine jumps into it. To open its contents, press L2 again. Again, resistance is felt, but – how to describe it – of a different kind. So I press harder, the button releases, the ball breaks, and the prize is in our virtual hand. Magic.

DualSense is another good thing
There are more spells like this. The DualSense seems to vibrate almost in zones at times. It all depends on what is happening on the screen. And the more that happens, the more effects the pad gives us. At the very beginning, Astro has to run under a giant fan. The combination of vibrations and sounds (more about them in a moment) gives the illusion of an authentic wind.
–
Did I mention that it is raining in rain ?! Astro jumped onto the floating platform and the message: blow like a paper windmill appeared on the screen. Sounds irrational? Yes. Is it working? Like gold. It is impossible not to smile.
–
In addition, DualSense uses the motion sensor that we know from the fourth DualShock, but it is more precise. Like the touchpad. You can also push it deeper than before.
–
The built-in loudspeaker has also been extended accordingly. The sound is richer and combined with vibrations gives amazing effects and possibilities. I am very curious how game developers will use it.
–
And “Astro’s Playroom” itself is a great, but simple platformer and it is impossible to deny its charm. But more about her another time. As it will be possible.
