DSOG: Forspoken has terrible optimizations and worse implementation of ray tracing

Journalists from DSOGaming analyzed another video game novelty. This time their long arms reached for the action The prophesied from Square Enix. For tests, the publication used an Intel i9 9900K processor with 16 GB DDR4 and a frequency of 3800 MHz, as well as Radeon RX580, RX Vega 64, RX 6900XT, GTX 980Ti, RTX 2080Ti, RTX 3080 and RTX 4090 graphics cards.

The results were depressing. At maximum settings (without tracing) in 1080p, only RX6900XT, RX7900XTX and RTX4090 could pull stable 60 frames per second, and only RTX4090 managed 4K. At the same time, ultra textures require more than 10 GB of memory on the video card – and it does not matter at what resolution you play.

However, the biggest disappointment was ray tracing, which journalists called “the worst they’ve ever seen.” As an example, the publication published screenshots with tracing enabled and disabled – there is no difference between them.

The only thing that received praise is the DirectStorage technology, which provides almost instantaneous downloads. True, there were some problems here, too, because when installed on an NvME SSD, the game began to stutter, and the journalists had to move it to a SATA SSD – there were no problems there.

Forspoken is available on PC and PS5. Release on other platforms in two years.
