The detectives of Miami-Dade Police Department investigate the death of drowning of a three-year-old boywhose body was found floating in a retention pond in a gated community in Homestead, Florida.
The terrible incident, reported last Friday night, had as a fatal victim a minor diagnosed with a non-verbal autism spectrum disorder. In accordance with Local 10 Newsthe incident occurred in the area of Northeast Sixth Street and Northeast 21st Terrace.
Captain Fernando Morales, spokesman for the Homestead Police Departmentaffirmed that the divers of the Miami-Dade Fire Department they recovered the boy’s body from a retention pond behind a row of houses. He added that, despite the efforts of rescuers and hospital medical personnel, the infant, whose identity was not revealed to the press, did not survive.
Detective Ángel Rodríguez also explained that they were doing everything possible to determine what happened and pointed out that it was a matter of great sensitivity, since it was the death of a child. Rodríguez commented that they accompanied the minor’s family in his mourning, but that they would not stop asking the necessary questions to clarify the fact.
Law enforcement agencies seek to establish, as the first point of their investigation, the circumstances that led the little boy to enter the water. Agents have asked anyone with information about the case to contact the Miami-Dade County Crime Stoppers department.
The call to the authorities occurred around 5:00 pm, after the boy was reported missing. As reported by the channels NBC Miami y CBS Miami the police even used K-9 and drones to try to locate him in time, a result that unfortunately was not achieved.
A similar incident occurred on February 26, 2022, when a four-year-old boy was found dead in a canal southwest of Miami-Dade. The authorities reported that the little boy also had special needs and that the cause of his death was, without a doubt, drowning.
The Miami-Dade Police sent rescue teams that included divers, given the proximity of the channel to the area. Relatives of the minor, neighbors and agents with trained dogs participated in the search, who tried to find him for an hour until the divers found his body inside the canal.
The accidental death of another minor It happened in March of this year., after a truck trailer crashed into a Nissan sedan. The collision caused the death of an 11-year-old boy and serious injuries to three others.
A total of seven infants and two adults were traveling in the vehicle, and all suffered injuries that required hospitalization. The deceased child was identified as Ronald Walker, a resident of Opa-locka.
