THE HAGUE –
No fireworks at Scheveningen due to COVID-19? Maybe not a ‘traditional’ festival, but fireworks. Around 9.30 p.m. Saturday evening, the sky above the coast was illuminated by about a hundred drones and then popping fireworks.

In 2020, the 40th anniversary of the International Fireworks Festival Scheveningen would be celebrated in grand style, but this event was also canceled due to the corona crisis. And that while in it previous year the eighth lustrum had been canceled by the organization due to strict European security measures.
‘We are of course disappointed that after last year the event could again not take place in its original form, but we are very happy that we have managed to find a suitable alternative. Hopefully we have already been able to make The Hague enthusiastic about the next edition, ‘said an optimistic Bjorn van Dijl, of the International Fireworks Festival Scheveningen Foundation.
‘Hybrid form of fireworks’
First, visitors could marvel at a special show on the theme of 75 years of Freedom. Symbolically concepts such as freedom, liberation, pride and victory were depicted. More than a hundred drones in red, white and blue colors took off from Scheveningen beach. During the show they formed a greenish-yellow heart ‘To all residents, entrepreneurs and care providers in The Hague. This hybrid form of fireworks and drones offers opportunities for the future, ‘said The Hague councilor for economics Saskia Bruines.
The fireworks were set off with De Pier as the shining center. For a moment it seemed as if the iconic building itself was on fire, but fortunately that was not the case, it was the spectacular end to a spectacular surprise show.
