Drew Brees answers the President on social networks

New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees answered the President of the United States, who recently told him that he should not retract what he had initially said.

“Through my conversations with my friends, teammates, and community leaders of people of color, I have come to realize that it is not an issue about the flag of the United States. It never has been. We can no longer use the flag to alienate people or distract them from the real issues facing our communities of color. ”

“We did it in 2017, and unfortunately I bought it back with my comments this week. We must stop talking about the flag and shift our attention to the real problems of systematic racial injustice, economic oppression, police brutality, and prison and judicial reform. ”

“We are at a critical juncture in the history of our nation. If not now when?”.

“We as a white community must listen and learn from the pain and suffering of our communities of color. We must know the problems, identify the solutions, and then put that into action. The community of color cannot do it alone. It will require all of us. ”

To @realdonaldtrump Through my ongoing conversations with friends, teammates, and leaders in the black community, I realize this is not an issue about the American flag. It has never been. We can no longer use the flag to turn people away or distract them from the real issues that face our black communities. We did this back in 2017, and regretfully I brought it back with my comments this week. We must stop talking about the flag and shift our attention to the real issues of systemic racial injustice, economic oppression, police brutality, and judicial & prison reform. We are at a critical juncture in our nation’s history! If not now, then when? We as a white community need to listen and learn from the pain and suffering of our black communities. We must acknowledge the problems, identify the solutions, and then put this into action. The black community cannot do it alone. This will require all of us.

In the week, Brees mentioned his opposition to the act of kneeling during the national anthem at the Nfl –A symbolic act initiated by Colin Kaepernick in 2016- because he considered it an offense against the flag. He then retracted those comments.

Then, the President pointed out that there was no reason to back down. “… he should not have retracted his initial stance on honoring our magnificent flag,” Trump tweeted. Brees thus replied to the President of the nation.

The NFL also recently issued a more critical stance after several players from the community of color called for them to be more energetic.
