“Simply awesome”: Monarchs get the German Bowl!

Frankfurt am Main – Screams of joy, dances of joy, tears of joy! the Dresden Monarchs are German champions for the first time in their club history! Coach Ulrich Däuber’s team won the German Bowl XLII against the Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns 28:19 (7:6, 0:6, 10:7, 11:0).

“It’s so cool, I can’t believe it,” kicker Florian Finke stuttered into the microphone with teary eyes just seconds after the big triumph.
Coach Ulrich Däuber also thought it was “simply awesome”!
Assistant coach Thomas Stantke hugged everyone: “I’ve been here for 25 years, it’s just great. We were the better team before the break, but we still dropped points. But after that it was an outstanding performance by the lads.”

“Finally, finally it worked! Strong, as the boys believed in themselves after going behind. Just amazing!”
Right from the start, in front of 14,378 spectators in the Frankfurt football arena, it was intense, hard and sometimes rough to the point, not an inch was given up without a fight.

The force of the Dresden offensive game did not come into play as usual at first, the defense of the unicorns showed their class.
In addition, the royals gave away safe points, for example when Devwah Whaley fumbled.
The unicorns were undoubtedly unlucky when their quarterbacks – Alexander Haupert and James Slack – had to leave the field injured before the break. Backup Reilly Hennessey took over and did a good job.

But that was of no use in the end, because in the second half only one team played – the Monarchs.
Despite the false start in this second round, they didn’t give up, fought back and also took risks.

Because suddenly the power, the clever passes and the thoughtfulness in the offense were there, the defense was 1A, while the unicorns now showed weaknesses, allowed themselves to be impressed and became more and more nervous.
Ultimately, a deserved victory for the Royals from Dresden!
