Dresden Music Festival honors composer and conductor John Adams.
Dresden/New York – The American composer and conductor John Adams (74) was honored with the 18th “Glashütte Original MusikFestspielPreis” at a streaming concert at the Dresden Music Festival on Sunday.
The award was made by festival director Jan Vogler (57) in New York.
On the occasion of the award ceremony, the New York orchestra “The Knights”, conducted by Eric Jacobsen (38) with Gil Shaham (50, violin) and Timo Andres (36, piano), played selected pieces by Adams.
The laureate has been aware of the musical history of the Saxon state capital since he could remember.
Adams: “Dresden plays a major role in the history of art and especially music. The names of Weber, Wagner and Richard Strauss are inextricably linked with the city’s legendary past.”
He only regretted that his first visit to Dresden, where he wanted to receive the award in person, had to be canceled.

“I am determined to make up for this trip as soon as possible.”
