DRDO Tests Integrated Air Defense System – QRSAM, VSHORADS, DEW

India Successfully Tests Integrated Air ⁣Defense system, Boosting Regional security

new delhi – In a landmark achievement for‌ india’s defense capabilities, the Defence Research and Development organisation⁢ (DRDO) successfully completed the first‌ flight ⁣test of its Integrated Air Defence Weapon System (IADWS) on March 12, 2025, off the coast of⁤ Odisha. This groundbreaking system represents a significant leap forward in protecting critical infrastructure from aerial threats.

The IADWS is a sophisticated, multi-layered defense ‌network comprised of domestically produced components: the Speedy Reaction Surface-to-Air Missile (QRSAM), cutting-edge Vrey Short Range Air⁤ Defence⁣ Systems (VSHORADS) missiles, and high-powered Directed Energy Weapons (DEW) – essentially, laser-based defense systems.

During the test, the IADWS concurrently engaged and neutralized three distinct targets: two high-speed unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and a multicopter ‌drone, all at varying altitudes. The integrated ⁤operation of all system components was‍ flawlessly managed⁤ through a Central Command Control Center (CCC) developed by the national Defence research and Development Institute (DRE), the program’s core research hub.‍ VSHORADS and DEW technologies were specifically developed by the‌ Research Center and the Centre for High Energy Systems⁢ and Sciences, respectively.

“This unique flight test has established a multi-layer air ‌defense capability for the‌ nation and will strengthen the‍ regional defense of critical facilities ‍from enemy ⁢air threats,” stated Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh, praising the DRDO, the armed forces, and the industry ‌partners involved in ⁣the project.

Dr. ‍Samir V kamat,Secretary of ⁣Defence R&D and Chairman of DRDO,also lauded the teams responsible for the triumphant ⁣exhibition.

The test, conducted at the Chandipur Integrated Test Range, involved full operation of missile systems, drone detection‍ and destruction systems, command control, communication networks, and radar – all confirmed by flight data⁣ collected during the exercise. Senior scientists from the DRDO and military officials were present to witness the successful demonstration.
