Draw, Citizens’ Winning Series Stops

Jakarta

Manchester City have to settle for going home with one point from the visit to Southampton. The Citizens muted 1-1 and also stopped their winning streak.

Manchester City travels to St Mary’s Stadium, Sunday (23/1/2022) early morning WIB in continued Premier League. The squad Pep Guardiola was left behind in the seventh minute due to a goal by Kyle Walker-Peters.

Man City tried to improve the effectiveness of attacks in the final third in the second half. But the equaliser came from set pieces, when Kevin de Bruyne’s free-kick headed Aymeric Laporte into the net.

The visitors created a number of other threats in this period, but failed to find an additional goal to turn things around. This draw stopped Man City’s series of wins in the Premier League at number 12.

But this does not change their position on the leaderboard. Man City are still firmly at the top with 57 points from 23 matches, while Soton are 12th with 25 points from 22 matches.

The course of the match

Manchester City started the game and immediately tried to control the game. Kevin de Bruyne’s cross in the third minute was blocked by Mohammed Salisu.

GOAL! Southampton took the lead in the seventh minute through attacks from the right. Kyle Walker-Peters volleyed in and volleyed in Nathan Redmond’s pass to beat Ederson Moraes.

Man City continued to dominate the ball, but struggled to create a serious threat for the Sotons. Pep Guardiola’s squad still has not shown the final passes needed to penetrate the host defense.

Soton scored a second goal in the 23rd minute, but it was disallowed. Oriol Romeu brought the ball forward and released a fine pass that was received by Armando Broja. Broja kept his composure and beat Ederson, but he was first in an offside position.

Opportunities from Man City in the 35th minute. Raheem Sterling picked up Bernardo Silva’s pass inside the box, slipped out of control and curled a left-footed shot. Just ended up thin on the left of the goal.

Barely! Man City attacked through Phil Foden on the left in the 39th minute. Romain Perraud’s cross missed, leaving Sterling in a very free position against the goalkeeper and goal. But his low strike was read by Frasier Forster, who then pushed the ball away with his feet!

Man City several times urged Soton through the right side through Kyle Walkers. It’s just that there was no clear chance and the first half ended for Soton’s advantage.

A minute into the second half, Soton spread threats. Corner James Ward-Prowse headed home by Jan Bednarek and kept out by Ederson.

Quick attack host to threaten Man City in the 53rd minute. Led by Stuart Armstrong, the ball was then thrust at Broja. Under pressure from Aymeric Laporte and Ederson moving forward, he fired. The ball hits Laporte’s feet and goes out of bounds.

Man City responded in the 59th minute. Rodri’s kick from in front of the penalty box just grazed over the crossbar!

GOAL! Man City equalized in the 65th minute from a free kick. De Bruyne’s cross was struck by Laporte’s header which escaped the offside trap.

Another opportunity from Man City in the 70th minute. This time De Bruyne’s shot hit the post, although the ball had failed to reach Forster.

Two minutes later, it was Gabriel Jesus’ turn to get a chance. His header met a cross from the left that hit the keeper and hit the post, then off the pitch.

The attack from Soton in the 86th minute ended Ibrahima Diallo’s experiment from kicking the penalty box. His effort, which had hit Man City players, was too weak to threaten Ederson.

No more goals until the game is over.
