Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake Officially “Gone Gold”
Tokyo, Japan – August 30, 2025 – Square Enix announced today that Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake has reached “Gone Gold” status, signifying the game is finalized and ready for manufacturing and digital distribution. The milestone was celebrated with a photo featuring Dragon Quest creator Yuji Horii and producer Masaaki Hayasaka.
“Gone Gold” assures fans the October 30th release date for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam remains on track. Pre-orders have been available since last year. The remake reimagines the classic Famicom titles with modern HD-2D graphics, inspired by Octopath Traveler, utilizing a 16-bit aesthetic rather of the original games’ 8-bit visuals.
Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake presents the combined adventures of the original Dragon Quest and its sequel. The first game casts players as a hero tasked with rescuing a princess and defeating the Dragonlord. The second continues the narrative a century later, following the Prince of Midenhall as he pursues the villainous wizard Hargon.
