Dozens of injured in the New York fire, probably due to the e-bike battery

News from the NOS

At least 38 people were injured in a fire in an apartment complex in Manhattan, New York. According to the American news channel CNN, at least two people are in critical condition and at least five others have been seriously injured.

Authorities suspect the fire was caused by a lithium-ion battery. These batteries are often used in electric scooters and e-bikes. According to firefighters, six people died in fires caused by such batteries this year.

The footage shows a woman being rescued from the 37-story building. She stayed out the window and the firefighters helped her with the ropes in an apartment below. It is unclear if she sustained any injuries.

In addition to this woman, another person was rescued using ropes, firefighters told CNN.

Authorities believe that the residents of the apartment where the fire broke out were repairing bicycles. The fire probably broke out just behind the front door.
