Dozens of Excelsior lose points in Eerste Divisie again at Eindhoven | NOW

Excelsior has already lost points in the Kitchen Champion Division for the fifth time this season. The team from Rotterdam came to visit FC Eindhoven no further than 1-1 on Friday evening, although they played the entire second half with ten men.

A few minutes before half time Excelsior had to continue with ten men due to a red card for Mats Wieffer. The midfielder was sent off after he hit Lorenzo van Kleef with a straight leg.

Nevertheless, Elías Már Ómarsson gave the visitors the lead in the Jan Louwers Stadium halfway through the second half. The striker was sent deep and worked the ball in nicely.

Fifteen minutes before the end, FC Eindhoven came on the same level thanks to a goal from Flor Van den Eynden. The Belgian just found it from a corner. In injury time, Excelsior escaped a defeat when Julian Baas took a shot from substitute Maarten Peijnenburg off the line.

The draw meant the fourth consecutive loss of points for Excelsior, which lost the previous three games. The team of coach Marinus Dijkhuizen can be found in the middle bracket with seven points. FC Eindhoven has two points more.

The match between FC Eindhoven and Excelsior was the only one scheduled on Friday in the Kitchen Champion Division. Initially, De Graafschap-NAC Breda was also to be played, but that game was postponed on Thursday due to corona infections by the team from Brabant.
