Doug Watson Departs as Scotland Head Coach After Disappointing Qualifying Results

EDINBURGH, Scotland – Doug Watson has stepped down from his position as head coach of the Scotland national cricket team, Cricket Scotland announced today. The decision follows a review of recent performances, most notably the team’s failure to qualify for the T20 world Cup.
Scotland’s hopes of reaching the T20 World Cup were dashed by losses to Jersey and italy during the qualifying tournament. Despite earlier successes, including victories against Canada and Namibia, these setbacks proved decisive.
Saturday’s scheduled one-day international against Canada was unluckily abandoned due to inclement weather, preventing any play.
Watson expressed his sentiments regarding his departure, stating, “While I’m disappointed to be moving on, I’ll take with me many fond memories of my time with the organisation.” He continued, “It has been a pleasure to work with this squad and coaching staff, and I’m proud to leave with the team top of the ICC CWCL2 qualifying table, but I am now looking forward to spending more time with my family.”
Despite the recent disappointment, Watson leaves Scotland in a strong position within the ICC Cricket World Cup League two (CWCL2) standings. The search for a new head coach will begin immediately, as Cricket Scotland looks to build on the team’s existing foundation.
