Former NFL Star Doug Martin Dies in‍ Police Custody Following Arrest

Oakland, ⁢CA ⁣- ⁣Doug Martin, a former running back who spent the majority of his NFL career⁢ with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, has died at the age of 36 following an arrest⁢ in Oakland, California. Authorities report Martin lost consciousness after a brief altercation with police ‍during an arrest⁤ related to a burglary and was pronounced dead at a local ‍hospital. Multiple investigations are underway to determine ‌the circumstances surrounding his death.

Martin was initially taken into custody after police responded‍ to a burglary alert. According to reports, officers where alerted ​that the suspect was experiencing a medical condition. A brief struggle ensued before Martin‍ reportedly lost consciousness. Paramedics administered ⁣first aid on the scene before transporting him to the hospital.

A standout player for the Buccaneers, ‍Martin was ​named one of the 50 best players in franchise history‌ during the team’s 50th-anniversary celebration. Though his career was frequently impacted by injuries,he achieved notable success,including a Pro Bowl selection in 2015 and a 1,400+ rushing ⁣yard season in 2012. ⁤

The Oakland⁢ Police Department’s homicide unit⁣ and internal affairs bureau are both involved in the examination. Authorities are currently working to determine the exact cause of Martin’s medical emergency and the events leading up to his death while in police custody.
