You were already in Los Angeles when it became known that you had to cancel your tour. How was that?
“I was really looking forward to it, it was the first time that I would do such a headline tour in the United States and Canada. But at the same time it was only a very small part of what is happening in the world. Those shows you can also play later on and everyone’s health is the most important thing. So I was disappointed for myself, but you have to look at the greater importance. And I am sure: when the weather will come, people want to go to live shows more than ever. “
Did you consciously choose to stay in Los Angeles?
“My partner has a US passport. We didn’t want to risk going to Europe later or vice versa, so we chose to stay together. I’ve been here for about a month now and it looks like I’m still stay a while. “
How did the idea for the quarantine edition of the 7 Layers Festival come about?
“Actually we wanted to organize that again in the fall, but I thought this was a good time to do it and to see if it would be possible to organize a festival. It was quite a puzzle, because artists from all over the world participate. of the world: Australia, Canada, Iceland, the United Kingdom and the United States. So we are dealing with all kinds of time zones, but we have succeeded. “
What is it like to perform from your living room?
“It’s really weird looking at your phone, knowing there are sometimes a few thousand people watching. One of the first times I went live on Instagram, I paused for a second after the first song. there is normal applause, but of course there was not now. Furthermore, you usually taste the atmosphere in your audience, but that is now also a lot more difficult. That is why I occasionally take the time between two songs to comment Numb is currently doing very well in Poland and Italy, so from those countries I am regularly asked to sing that song. “
You also perform during your festival. Do you take into account the choice of the songs you sing, so that it does not get too sad?
“My music is pretty sad anyway, I think people know that. My theory is that sad songs make you happy. I can set up a very sad playlist and completely wither away and then after a while I notice that it is going again. The people who know 7 Layers a bit also know that they should not expect extreme pop music. “
