Dortmund kills Schalke 04, RB Leipzig stalls against Freiburg

The resumption of the Bundesliga sparked some excitement in the microcosm of the football. The first major championship to resume competition after the interruption caused by the coronavirus pandemic, the Bundesliga offered us an attractive Ruhr derby for its return. Borussia Dortmund hosted Schalke 04 behind closed doors at Signal-Iduna-Park. In a necessarily special context with a drastic health protocol, the two teams were eager to do battle. For this shock of the 26th day, Lucien Favre opted for a 3-4-3 with the trio Brandt, Hazard, Haaland at the forefront. The Swiss technician had to deplore the absences of Witsel, Reus, Can and left Sancho on the bench following muscular problems. On the Schalke side, David Wagner also relied on a 3-4-3 and established notably Todibo and Harit. If the BVB quickly gained possession, the latter experienced the worst difficulties to approach the goals of his rival. We had to wait until the 24th minute to see the first opportunity of the match. On the right, Brandt distilled a good center for Haaland whose volley found the minnet.

The continuation after this publicity

An opportunity that allowed this derby to get carried away and Schalke finally showed the tip of his nose. Caligiuri in the area landed a beautiful shot repelled by Burki (26th). Three minutes later, Dortmund opened the scoring. Well shifted on the right by Brandt, Hazard centered for Haaland whose deviation left Schubert no chance (1-0, 29th). Just before the break, the Borussia made the break thanks to Guerreiro well served by Brandt who adjusted Schubert with a beautiful strike (2-0, 45th). Upon returning from the locker room, Lucien Favre’s men delivered the final blow. On a clear counter attack, Haaland served Brandt who shifted Hazard whose sudden strike cheated Schubert (3-0, 48th). Shortly after the hour, Dortmund scored a fourth goal thanks to Guerreiro who took advantage of a good discount from Haaland to crucify Schubert closely (4-0, 63rd).
