d’Or – Environment. These 18 wind turbines that worry the “Climats de Bourgogne”

Code names: “Grands Communaux” and “Chaume des communes”. Behind these somewhat poetic appellations are hidden two projects for the installation of wind turbines in the heart of the wine-growing coast of Beaune. Two projects in the sights of the Association des Climats du vignoble de Bourgogne, which sounded the alarm in a press release and alerted the State services.

18 wind turbines 180 meters high

The representatives of the association thus denounce “the plans for the installation, by the RES company, of 18 wind turbines 180 meters high on and around the site listed as World Heritage and its landscape preservation zone” which “threaten the authenticity of the landscapes of the World Heritage site, by making these wind turbines visible from the registered site. An impact that the World Heritage Committee could also take a dim view… “.

The settlements in question should occur in the municipalities of Saint-Jean-de-Bœuf and Antheuil and between Ivry-en-Montagne and Saint-Romain.

“Serious threats to certain landscapes and emblematic places”

In its press release, the association believes that “the study of the files submitted by the promoter reveals that to date, these projects would pose serious threats to certain landscapes and emblematic places, such as the circus at the end of the world of Saint- Romain, the panorama of the mountain of 3 Crosses in Santenay, the butte de Corton, or even views from villages such as Pommard, Auxey-Duresses, Meursault or even Beaune “. Moreover, these wind turbines would also be visible from the point of view included in the Cité des vins et des Climats de Bourgogne project in Beaune.

The objective is not to “put under cover” the site

In this text, the Association explains having seized the services of the State because “with the inscription (in the world heritage, Editor’s note), the State guarantees the preservation of the integrity and the authenticity of the site inscribed which, let us remember, is under “cultural landscapes” “.

And explains its action against these two wind projects: “It is our mission, as an organization responsible for ensuring the preservation and transmission of this heritage of inestimable universal value, to report to the State services and the existence of these risks to the population. […] The objective is not to “put under cover” the site, but to reflect on a sustainable development, which does not affect the landscapes and the emblematic heritage of the Climats, nor does not hamper the challenges of economic development. ”

And to conclude: “we do hope that the State services will not accept these projects as they are and we will of course remain vigilant”.
