Doom and Doom 2 now playable in widescreen • Gamingnation

A new update has been released for the original Doom and Doom 2 on all platforms. For example, Doom can now be played in widescreen for the first time.

The update for the original Doom and Doom 2 includes a number of ‘Quality of life’ improvements and performance optimizations in addition to widescreen. On PC, the game now has Steam support, so anyone running Ultimate Doom or Doom 2: Hell on Earth will automatically get the new versions.

Incidentally, the original DOS versions are still available as a separate boot option within Steam.

So in addition to the previously mentioned improvements, Doom now has widescreen support. This allows you to play the game in 16: 9 aspect ratio without letterboxes. In addition, the title screen, loading screens and end screen have been transferred to widescreen. In addition, all additions have also received widescreen support.

The field-of-view has also been enlarged so that more is visible on the side of the screen. As a result, no image had to be chopped off from the top and bottom.

Finally, Gyro Aim has been added to the Switch, PC and PlayStation 4 versions. This allows you to look left or right by turning the controller in that direction. The degree to which Gyro Aim is applied can be adjusted according to preference. For the PC version, a PlayStation 4 controller is required to use Gyro Aim.
